Visual Content is Queen
If content is king, then visual content is queen. It’s no secret she’s the one with all the power. The big question is, how do you befittingly use that power to gain the attention of your target market?
Visual content is the key to the kingdom, take for instance the four fastest-growing social networks: Pinterest, Instagram, Snapchat, and Tumblr. These social networks are so successful because image focused posts produce a staggering 650 percent higher engagement than posts with text alone, according to Forrester. The reason for this colossal statistic is simple: visual content reaches our brains considerably faster and is comprehended quicker than textual information.
Chances are, you are not reading this. 81 percent of people only skim the content they read online. Retaining information is even harder without a visual accompaniment. Even if you make it to the end of this blog, odds are you will only remember 10 percent of what you read. However, if I pair this text with a relevant image, most people will retain 65 percent of the information three days later.
The use of visually stimulating infographics can be the trick to keeping your audiences attention. The use of eye-tracking devices have shown that readers on the Internet pay close attention to information- carrying images. When accompanied images are relevant, readers spend more time looking at the images than the text on the page. Infographics are also shared and liked on social media three times more often than all other types of content.
It’s important to keep content fresh and engaging. Even with superbly designed eye enchanting graphics, the National Center for Biotechnology reports that the average consumers attention span is 8 seconds, which is one second less than that of a gold fish.
Thank you to the 19 percent who read to the end!
